Reflecting on our Past

TOHT is located on the traditional territories of Beaverhouse, Matachewan, Temagami and Timiskaming First Nations.

Land Acknowledgement

The Timiskaming Ontario Health Team operates within the Robinson-Huron Treaty, Treaty 9 and unceded Indigenous territory, specifically within the traditional territories of Beaverhouse, Matachewan, Teme Augama/Temagami and Timiskaming First Nations. Today these lands encompass communities with enduring presence of Algonquin, Anishnabai, Oji-Cree, and Métis Peoples.

We acknowledge that original Peoples have been stewards and caretakers of these lands and waters since time immemorial and that they continue as caretakers for generations to come.  As settlers and inhabitants, we have a responsibility to understand our relationship to the land and join as allies to take care of the land, waters, plants and animals.

Acknowledging ensures we reflect on our past and commit to addressing systems of power that have and continue to oppress Indigenous peoples and to do the work of reconciliation with respect and humility.
